Metrosexual Men Provide Incentive for More Stylish Underwear Choices

Modern Men Demand More Variety in Underwear Choices

The world first heard the term “metrosexual” back in the olden times – 1994, to be exact. At the time, metrosexual was a sort of funny word, usually used to label heterosexual men who cared about their appearance in a way that was perceived as feminine. In the 20 years that have followed, we have more or less dropped the term “metrosexual.” Why? Because if we were still using it to describe men who cared about their appearances, practically every single man on the face of the planet would qualify.

That’s right. Men everywhere now care about fashion, and about how they present themselves to the general public. 20 years ago, slim-cut pants were the sole purview of emo kids with eyeliner and burgeoning hipsters. Nowadays, everyone and their brother, uncle, father, grandfather and second cousin rocks a slim-fit suit to work. With the advent of the slim-fit suit, skinnier casual pants have become commonplace in men’s fashion.

But metrosexual influence extends far, far beyond slim-fit suits and funky bowling shoes. Metrosexual men also paved the way for more daring styles of men’s underwear. Can you imagine a world without trunk-style underwear (by far the best choice when it comes to sex appeal, support and a slim profile)? We didn’t think so. Well, if metrosexuality had never caught on, it is entirely possible that trunk-style skivvies would not be available to the modern American man. Bikinis, micro-briefs and thongs would be similarly absent from the underwear section of your local department store. There are two reasons we should thank the metrosexual trendsetters of the 1990s for these smaller, more daring styles: first of all, you can’t wear ultra slim-cut, tight fitting pants unless your underwear is completely undetectable through your clothing. Second of all, metrosexuals proved to typical American men that it was completely acceptable to care about their appearances – whether or not they wanted to sport duds on the cutting edge of fashion.

Not only have metrosexuals heavily influenced the underwear silhouettes available to the American man, they also brought a whole range of colors and decorations to the forefront of American men’s undergarments. Prior to the 1990s, the only colors for men’s underwear were white, heather grey, navy or light blue. Even black was regarded unacceptably risqué. Nowadays, you can walk into any store that carries men’s underwear, and you’re sure to find a wide variety of enticing colors. Some specialty boutiques are beginning to carry even more alluring styles, in a wide array of patterns and accent colors. If you are thankful for the variety of underwear available in the average American department store, you have the metrosexuals to thank. If the metrosexuals of the 1990s had not been so daring, suggesting that confident men can and should be concerned about their appearances, we would have far fewer underwear options today.

Pack Right for the Fourth of July

America’s birthday is upon us and there is no better time to plan a long weekend getaway. Imagine yourself on a beach somewhere, celebrating the birthplace of the United States of America with fireworks, delicious food, and more explosive decorations. Obviously, in order to maximize your fun, you need to pack appropriately for your Fourth of July adventures. After all, there is nothing worse than heading out on a vacation adventure only to realize, once you arrive, that you have literally nothing to wear.

Here are some ideas to get you started:
• Where are you going? Are you planning on heading to a family cabin in the woods or a little beach house somewhere? Maybe you are going to kick back and relax at an all-inclusive resort. Wherever you go, make sure that you pack the clothing you need to be comfortable in the given climate of your vacation location. You do not need long johns at the beach and you probably will regret bringing that thong bathing suit on a hiking trip.
Flag swimsuit for men
• What will you be doing? Underwear and swimwear are two things that absolutely must be tailored to whatever activities or excursions you are planning on your vacation. If you are intending to engage in a number of watersports, like waterskiing or tubing, you will probably require a pair of board shorts or another longer bathing suit. If sunbathing is the only water related activity on your agenda, then feel free to bust out the tiny speedo look with the American flag on it.
• Who are you going to be hanging out with? Obviously, different social situations require different wardrobes. Even though everyone should be free to express themselves as they see fit, a family barbeque with your nieces and nephews might not be the best time to rock your fetching trunk cut suit. If you know that playing with children is high on your list of priorities for the long weekend, be sure that your swim attire is suitably family friendly.
• Who are you trying to impress? Vacation is a great time to see and be seen. Keep in mind when you are planning for your vacation that there might be a wide variety of people who you wish to impress. Dress for it. All of your swimwear and outer clothing should be selected with looking your best in mind. If your swimsuit is off trend or out of style, why not use the holiday as an excuse to update your look? Sporty trunk cuts and classic board shorts are very popular this year.
Whatever you are doing to celebrate the birth of America, make sure that you do so looking and feeling your best. Packing the right underwear and swimwear is a great first step towards being confident during your weekend getaway. As always, your comfort should be your top priority. Try everything on before you pack to make sure that you will not spend the entire weekend wanting to crawl out of your skin with discomfort. Happy Fourth of July!

5 Best Summer Beach Bodies - Men's Swimwear

Summer Beach Bodies: The 5 Best

Summer is the prime time to cavort around with very few clothes on, perhaps swimwear or something even less covering. Most normal men cannot afford to spend hours at a time in the gym, but celebrities can. To celebrate their determination and dedication to maintaining their impressive physiques, let us all take a few minutes to show them our appreciation by listing the top five men’s summer beach bodies.

5. Keith Urban. Rehab was kind to Mr. Urban. Recently, pictures of the toned and tattooed 45 year old astounded the public. Keith Urban says that he keeps in shape by going on tour or, when he is not on tour, by doing some cardio and light weight lifting. He says he would like to pick up yoga in the future.

4. Ryan Gosling. Everybody loves Ryan Gosling and for good reason, at that. Despite the fact that Ryan Gosling is in every woman’s favorite movies and clearly has more money than most, he seems to be ultimately pretty relatable. Ryan Gosling stays in such incredible shape by keeping tight to a strict diet and doing martial arts.

3. Matthew McConaughey is another one of those laid back dudes that everybody seems to love. Despite the fact that his personality seems incredibly chilled out, his workout routine is anything but. Mr. McConaughey is the closest thing you can possibly be to an Olympic athlete without actually having to be an Olympic athlete. Bing his training plans to see why.

2. Shemar Moore. If you do not watch Criminal Minds, you might not be familiar with Shemar Moore and that certainly is a shame. A 43 year old actor, Shemar Moore possesses what can only be described as the body of a Greek god. Thankfully, he has no problems whatsoever with removing his shirts in public.

1. Channing Tatum. Channing Tatum made major waves with Magic Mike but, honestly, he has had a phenomenal body for so much longer than that. Fun fact: Channing Tatum used to be an exotic dancer himself, so nothing in that movie was faked. He stays in shape with a routine of dancing, martial arts, and intense weightlifting. Sure, you are not going to get paid to work out anytime soon. But there is no reason to sacrifice the beach body of your dreams when wearing swimwear. Take a page from the book of these celebrities and do what you can to make sure that your beach body is rocking or enjoy watching those that have a rocking body, whichever you choose..

How European and American Men Differ in Their Underwear Choices

Men's Underwear Preferences in the USA and Europe

Europeans, man. Europeans are just so different from Americans. First of all, they definitely do not speak American. Second of all, they typically use more hair product than the average American man. And if European men are willing to go out in public with that much product in their hair, imagine how different their more private sartorial decisions must be. (English humor above, don't tweet us!)

If you imagine that Europeans have historically worn more flamboyant underwear, and have more eclectic definitions of acceptable undergarments, you are definitely correct. European men (of all ages and body types) have always been more accepting of their right to rock truly fabulous underwear. In the United States of America, men who mention that they even notice the appearance of their unmentionables are considered ridiculous, not masculine enough, or – worst of all – vain.

The truth is that, in Europe there has long been a huge market for fancy men’s underwear. Bright and flashy colors, on-trend patterns, daring cuts and silhouettes have long been the norm for European consumers. In America, underwear is still seen as a basic at best – a necessary evil. For a long time, the only options available to American men were briefs and boxers. While European men have always visited specialty boutique stores for their underthings, most American men purchase their underwear in bulk packages from the back corners of department stores.

If the standard, blue-checked boxer is the norm for American men, a yellow, polka-dotted string bikini is standard for their European counterparts. That is all starting to change, however, as American men are becoming more discerning in their underwear preferences. In fact, you can see the European influence on men’s underwear fashions from all sorts of retailers this season, ranging from the basics to the fancier selections.

Praise be to David Beckham, because everywhere you look a variety of European styles are now available to the modern American man. From mesh panels in your sweatiest places to neon racing stripes on your basic boxer briefs, there are now a plethora of options for American underwear shoppers. But before the American men’s underwear market can be totally Euro-fied, we must address our cultural misconceptions about men who take pride in the style and state of their underwear.

To summarize the major differences between men’s underwear in Europe and men’s underwear in America, here are some key points:
· In America, men’s underwear has long been regarded as a utilitarian basic, sold in bulk packages in the back corner of stores. American men who acknowledge their underwear’s appearance are ridiculed.
 · European men consider their underwear to be an important sartorial choice. They consider it normal to purchase their underwear from boutique stores, and are typically fashion-forward in the styles that they select. Generally speaking, they are also more adventurous in the cuts they will select.

Pairing the Best Men's Underwear Under Your Skinny Jeans

Men's Underwear that Goes Best with Skinny Jeans

Right now, skinny jeans are at the cutting edge of fashion. As everyone knows, skinny jeans require a certain physique to truly pull off – if you don’t have the physique, you can always substitute supreme swagger and the utmost confidence. However, if your skivvies destroy your skinny jean look before you even leave the house, having the body and confidence to wear them doesn’t matter one bit.

One of the most important things to remember when wearing skinny jeans is that you want to avoid the much-dreaded visible underwear lines (or visible “manty lines”). In order to avoid this tragic condition, you must be thoughtful in your underwear selection. Ideally, the underwear that you wear beneath your skinny jeans will have a snug enough profile to be undetectable through your jeans, while still giving you the support you need. Here are some options for you to consider:

·       Bikinis. Bikinis are basically the smallest briefs that you have ever seen. They have a much, much lower rise than briefs. Generally speaking, they have a wide and flat waistband that sits right at the hips to prevent the briefs from riding up. Despite the fact that bikinis have an extremely low rise, they still have full butt coverage. Thus, if you are worried that your bare bottom might be hanging out, bikinis can still offer you a low enough profile for skinny jeans, but with the comfort you are used to getting from a fuller cut of underwear.

 ·       Trunks. Trunks are the love child of briefs and boxer briefs. This underwear has a lower rise than traditional briefs and shorter thigh hem than boxer briefs. Think of them as the tiniest pair of shorts that you have ever put on. The fact that they are cut in a similar fashion to boxer briefs means that you will not have to worry about your underwear riding up over the course of the day. That said, because the legs are cut shorter than standard boxer briefs, the leg openings will be undetectable under even the tightest of skinny jeans. As an added bonus, trunk-styleunderwear has long been considered one of the sexiest underwear options around.

·       Thongs. For the truly daring among us, as well as those truly dedicated to eradicating any and all risk of visible manty lines, we have the thong. The thong is constructed of a junk-swaddling pouch in the front, and various soft-elastic straps at the waistband and seat. Many men are reluctant to try thongs, fearing discomfort, but if you are a regular skinny jean wearer, you should definitely consider giving thongs a try! You could not ask for a more discreet underwear option.

Clearly, if you regularly wear skinny jeans, you’ve already noticed the importance of wearing underwear that is completely invisible to the public. If you are new to the skinny jean game, however, you may not have realized how much thought would be required. The most crucial thing is simply to be mindful in your selection of underclothes. Select a style – like trunks, bikinis or thongs – to ensure that you do not ruin your look with visible underwear lines.

Celebrities that Should Model Underwear

Everyone knows that underwear models are the hottest models out there. Between the chiseled abs, bulging biceps and bulges everywhere else, male underwear models give mere mortal men everywhere something to aspire to. Obviously, part of the allure is that they aren't real people – they are models – and as such you need not feel too badly about your less-than-perfection. While that is probably true, models are not the only people that should be modeling underwear. There are at least four celebrities that should consider (or who already have considered) stripping down in the name of capitalism and brand recognition.

Let's look at the list:

1.) Justin Bieber. Yes, Bieber. Despite the fact that the Biebs is a mere monkey-owning pop star mortal, he really should consider getting in on the modeling game. It seems like he spends most of his time – on stage and off – dropping his pants just far enough that you can see the brand of his skivvies. Clearly, he's enjoying it, so why not drop the pants all the way and get in on the game?

2.) Zac Efron. Much like his fellow teen heart throb, Mr. Bieber, Zac Efron loves showing the world what he's sporting underneath his street clothes. The great thing about Zac is that he's fit and unashamed to share that fitness with the world. In fact, he has bragged to the media about choosing his own underwear for scantily clad scenes in films. Why not make it a full ad campaign, sir?

3.) Prince Harry. Clearly, Prince Harry ought to share his regality with the world, from the Commonwealth of Nations and beyond. Just Bing "Prince Harry, Underwear" to find out exactly why.

4.) David Beckham. This is probably a cop out, as David Beckham has already starred in the number of hugely successful underwear campaigns. However, he got his start as a soccer player, so he gets thrown into the celebrity category. David Beckham should be an underwear model, and he is an underwear model. Clearly, all is right with the world.

Obviously, these are some pretty conventional choices for celebrities who should take to the modeling industry. There are certainly others out there. Really, celebrities branching out into underwear modeling just goes to show that you do not have to be a trained model to model successfully. You could just as easily bridge the gap over from pro soccer player.
